So, new permission. Second item of the day dug. Had a coffee with the landowner and a sit down for a while - as it was quite a surprise.
I would like to know which Spink number it is please.(3680?)
I presume it's a Guinea and the date is 1758, I haven't cleaned it apart from a gentle dip in luke warm water.
Found 10" down on ridge and furrow, unploughed old farmland.(compacted soil)
Thanks

Brilliant. I'd have drunk more than a cup of coffee in celebration. Keep rocking and rolling.

Ridge & Furrow ? Normally crap finds on that. And in Lancashire too ? Wow ! Lancashire is poor for finds.

I'm not sure "poor" would be fair. Englands largest Viking silver hoard was found not far from Preston and isn't the Silverdale hoard a littl3 further north the second largest?
I've had five Gold coins myself in 3 years from the Lancastrian turf along with many other relics and coins stretching back 4000 years.
Maybe "poor" in comparison to say Norfolk or even East Yorkshire but I don't think there is a poor metal detecting area anywhere on an island as rich in history as Britain is.
Great save by the way with that Guinea. I dont know how others get on with these but ive found plenty of George III silvers and even a 1774 Guinea but I've never found any George I or II silvers. A gold would be just unthinkable
