first dig of the year Friday the 13Th

went off down the beach this morning got there before it was light dug up a cannon ball and a 25 pounder smoke shell but i only kept the finds you see in the pictures the artillery shell looking things the top part of a 40 pounder Armstrong shrapnel shell from the 1870's it has a wooden time fuse the other finds consist of 50 cl tracer a 303 and 20mm cases

Nice finds. I like the 20mm. The dimp in the top of the cartridges is caused by the mechanism when it ejects the cartridges.

The 40lber Armstrong is great !!!

Great finds,unuaslly .303 with the two grooves certainly not something I've come across before in a .303.

I always thought that was what happened. well at leas is doesn't take much to bend them back in to shape

that Armstrong shell top is now the oldest fuse in my entire collection
