found on pasture 6+ inch down . came out shiny . im still new to detecting and dont have a clue what it is .. came up silver jewelry on garrett ace 150.

some numbers and letters on bottom ...tg co there might be some missing before the tg as bottom is damaged then a series of numbers.
it seems solid apart from what looks like some big old screw thread on the top

its a small hand full and is apx 1lb in weight.

any ideas anyone

cheers for looking :))

Looks military, have you a photo off all of it with dimensions?

Hi;
I would agree that it is a fuse head and if there is a hollow core to the item then I would suggest that it is for a proximity anti aircraft shell.
If it was found anywhere close to the docks then I would say almost certainly AA shell.

Hi, I have moved the thread to the Military section as this will alert the Military ID'ers. I am sure either RRPG or Chopper will know what it is, but I have to agree it looks like a fuze, I have found a few but not one like that, go easy with it just in case it is not safe

AA shell fuse. I think William is good at IDing these as it isn't my area of expertise. However, I can tell you that it was made in July 1939, hence the '7/39' mark. Looks like a War Department arrow above the 2nd '8' as well. Nice find :)

It appears to be spent, i.e. it isn't live, so safe enough. All the same, no sense in treating it with disrespect by hitting it with a hammer or similar........so be nice to it !

id say that is either the N°209 Mk I was the Swiss original model or the N°209 Mk II that was used on the 4.5 inch AA shells and possibly manufactured in Britain

looks like you got it bang on the button . ive looked into it and done some research .
this is 100% british made as was made after the swiss stopped supplying us .
these rounds were used at Tynemouth, Broadway, Heavy Anti-Aircraft Battery they had 4 x 4.5"guns and were the closest to the position that they were found . apx 3-4 mile inland from the battery site .

looks like it missed it target and kept on flying :)) only to be found some 70 years later .

cheers guys
