Hi Vanners
Be careful with the tide times tomorrow afternoon, which are :
High = 14.59.................Low = 21.36 (Times in BST)
Also remember that many of the tide tables show the times in GMT, and you need to add 1 hour this time of year.
There is no beach exposed at Blackpool at high tide, the sea come up to the sea wall (steps). There is a small area of sand available at Lytham St Annes at high tide. The ideal time for both locations is about 2/3 hours after high tide, and then follow the tide out.
I was going to Blackpool or Lytham tomorrow, and would have got there about 18.00 for about 3 hours of detecting the receding tide. Parking is also free after 18.00 at Lytham and possibly along the prom at Blackpool.
Have a great day, I hope you get some good finds on your first beach outing. Let us all know how you get on.
Regards Bob (Accrington)

Thanks for all the posts.
Well I went to Lytham just East of Fairhaven lake. Free parking and a quite bit of beach. Started to turn up various a bits of metal and small pieces like ring pulls and bottle tops no coins or anything interesting.
However this was a learning curve and I started to understand the settings a bit more. It seemed to work absolutely fine on the wet sand and as the tide was coming in I worked up the beach just ahead of it. Although quite a light outfit I soon realised that I needed to developed a posture that didn't pull on the old back. No doubt I'll get used to it.
That was the good news after about an hour I couldn't get threshold properly and the re-tune button wouldn't work properly either. So a quick pit-stop with a brew and the glasses on revealed that the cable from the disc to the control box appeared to be loose in the control box. Tapping the cable or the control box sent it loopy. I was tempted to open it up; but its still under warranty so I'll drop it back at Viking for them to sort out. Needless to say it put paid to the rest of the afternoon. Can't say whats caused the loose connection as yet, but I can't see it being anything to serious. Watch this space

Oops, a bit of a bummer. Those gremlins can be a pest. I hope that they didn't spoil your whole day and that you soon get things sorted.

Well the V6 is sorted now and functioning normally again, tested with a set of headphones at the Viking HQ and it was fine. My own headphones brought back the crackling again, Don't think the 3.5 to 6mm adapter is to clever so I'll bought a quality 6mm jack plug to fit. Also whilst in Maplins I picked up one of their pointers.Small compact unit, takes a PP3. There's no lanyard connection point so its the pocket or a holster. I Bench tested it and it and it picks up modern coins at around an Inch. However the tip is not the most sensitive bit, that seems to be 1/2 to 3/4 of inch back from the tip. I suppose field testing will be a better test. Now just got to plan the next trip out

Chris,
£19.99 ex battery (PP3). In the Blackburn store. They didn't have a lot of MD gear in I think it might be coming to an end. Just a few scoops, pointers and 2 MD 's
Can't say yet how it will fare in the field, but I thought it was worth a punt at that price.

Eeek; I would be interested to know how it compares to my Garrett Pro-Pointer. As you already know; Pro-Pointers are rather on the costly side.

Gosh! I was hoping to see a multitude of beautiful shinnies. Shame about your glitch. Better luck next time out!
