Hello all
I'm going to ask a question that has probably been asked 1000's of times before but here goes...
We are going to North Cornwall (along with half of the rest of the world) this summer and i'm looking to do some dry sand detecting with my ACE for a few hours.
Can anyone suggest beaches i can detect on around the Newquay,Perranporth,Watergate,Constantine areas please
if there are few if any beaches I will just have to get into those streams and start panning for GOLD !!!
Regards
Tin

Hi
I came across a video on youtube the other day and he was on cornwall beaches his names mal he posts some excellent videos on all different places. I will post the link in a bit.
Is this your first time beach detecting with the ACE?
What ACE do you have 150,250 or Euro?

Here you go

This is not his best video because it doesnt show him detecting but it does show his finds and the beaches they were from
The other good thing is he got about £40 in change (not bad) but bear in mind that he is using the excalibur 2 detector which will be far more effective on the wet beaches than the ACE but if you stick to the dry I would say the ACE would stand up very well
I wish I was near a beach, have a good un

One of the best finds i made was on a beach in SE Cornwall and was sticking out of the sand as i walked down from the prom wall and it was a three tier 18ct gold necklace that weighed 42 grams and was from the Edwardian period so you don't even need a machine just keep your eyes open. I won beach find of the year with it when i was in South Hams club 2000/ 2001.

Don't just stick to the dry sand, I have it on good authority that the ace will perform on wet sand as long as you turn the sensitivity right down as far as you can.

Don't believe a word of what people say. The Ace can perform perfectly well on wet sand and even in the water as well, even on full sensitivity - it depends on the beach and the degree of mineralisation. Don't know about the north coast, but I've used my 250 with no problems at all in wet sand and below the tide line at Marazion, Porthcurno, and Sennen to name a few

hi guys
thanks for all the replies - i'm going to be using an ACE 150 on the dry sand - although I may give it a go on the wet if the signal is stable.
I'm a little confused with some of the replies though - I thought that in Cornwall the beaches are all privately owned either by district/borough/town/county councils or landowners. Where would i start getting permission/licences from.Or do you take "pot luck" on any beach and run the risk of annoying local officialdom and giving Detecting a bad name ?

There are again videos on youtube proving that the ace 250 can work effectively on wet sand although I knocked my sesitivity down 3 nothes from top when I last visited the beach - I have always experienced falsing on anything higher. I have to be honest I dont think you will have much luck with the 150 on wet sand. But I would still give it a try for nought after all nothing ventured nothing gained.

All Council owned beaches are good for detecting.
Only Duchy ones are a no no and SSI sites
Here is a link to find who looks after the beach
http://www.cornwall.gov.uk/default.aspx ... 69#beaches" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The joke is a duchy license would only cover you on like 2 beaches in Cornwall
