Just purchased a second hand adx 250 for £185, I don, t think it was a bad price, in excellent condition. Just wondering if anyone has any advice on settings for first outing on new permission land which is quite heavy. Have had a look at some of the older threads, just hoping for some more input... Thanks..

Hi BAZ.
Hve been looking through some of the older threads on these settings for this machine, so will most likly start there.
I have used C-Scopes since 1970s, but they were always used on light land around me. Now moving onto heavy land with new permission thought i might just try a different detector, its all different than my long time C-Scope so for a time its going to be a learning period.
Using it by just throwing down some of my old finds, it does react differently, so am excited to get out there, well when the rain stops..

Ok i finally got out with the XP250, which is very much lighter than my C-scope.
Plenty of pickings although its all iron, belt buckles, plough bits, nails etc at the mo.
Settings were set most of the time to Sensitivity 12 oclock, Disc to D1, dial at 4 oclock, Freq shift to off( not sure about this setting). I thought these settings might get rid of the iron, but thus far not so. I can hear the difference in sounds between irons and silver paper. but would like to get rid of iron if poss....
I used the C-scope over some of the same areas before diggin just to check things out, but the C-scope has difficulty in finding some of the deeper stuff...
What i am confused about is sweeping over found object, if i sweep east to west, left to right, nice clear bleep, turning myself to North to South i lose the signal. With the C-scope it didn't matter which way i approached or swept over the object it would always be the same.
Can anyone explain this, or show me a link please..
Thanks..

with the xp's you have to change the position your standing by 90 degrees then sweep left to right to help pin point the object, i think if you have pin point on your machine you can do north south sweep, it might also be something to do with the difference between 2d coils and concentric but im not sure on that.

Hi and thanks, The XP has no pin point button unlike my C-scope. Doing as you suggested by turning 90 degrees, thats when sometimes i lose the signal, in other words i can find it in one direction but not another...This may well be something i have to get used to..
regards.
