Dont worry about in air tests, they do not offer a true reflection of the PI machines performance

not got a pi but maybe if you have a large plant pot or bucket full of soil or sand may prove better results for you rather than an air test just a thought roy

Andy You need to wind the switch on the right hand side up as far as You can get away with.

Cant really comment on a Cscope Andy because i dont use them , but PI's do go far deeper in wet sand than dry or air tests, but if you can only get 6 inch on a fishing weight i would send it back.

Hi Andy, With no metal anywhere near the search head turn the Frequency Control (top right) up into the green zone, then turn the Sensitivity Control (bottom left) until you just get a feint hum and try again.

I am at Bridlington tomorrow trying a new machine out if you want to meet up.

EDIT if you are trying to set it up indoors then metal round about may be causing problems setting up.

Hi Bainsey,
I have a CS4Pi. Air tests are a waste of time I've found with this machine. Take some items to the beach, ie gold ring, coins etc and bury them at various depths. This will give you the most accurate gauge of the sort of depth your 4pi will pick them up at. Testing indoors will affect this detector, that was good advice.
Let me know how you get on.
ps If you get a solid signal then dig and be prepared to dig deep, don't bother with a trowel, take a good sized spade.
