things must have been bad, I have just identified the domed button above the two 4 hole buttons as one from the 13th Light Dragoons,(formally the hussars I believe) battle honours for battle of waterloo and charge of the light brigade, lets hope tomorrow brings a bit more.

From your finds today, I'd have to say that you did quite well for yourself, Mark. Buckles and thimbles are always welcome in my book. Well done.

hello there Rusty, the buckles are not to bad unfortunately the larger decorated one is damaged and I havn't managed to id it yet, smaller ones are nice enough, as for the thimbles both are badly damaged and bent, still it shows there has been activity. I've nearly finished this field for now so I don't expect to much more from it untill after its been ploughed then I'll start the process all over again, I got another field to have a go at as mentioned in another post, this has just had the maize harvested/cut had a look today but it looks very awkward to tackle amongst all the stalks that are left and they do have some size root system......Mark

Your thimble on the left of the big pic is Georgian, and i would say that puts the buckles around the same period....If they were more ornate and irregular they would be earlier...
So around 18th century, give or take a few years...
The fragile looking buckle type thing was possibly something to do with clothing or some sort of tightening buckle....the guilding would be there to be seen and shown off.....i think....

you actually get used to it after a while, been ages since i found anything half decent
cest la vie,
i have thousands of acres of land, seriously, but trying to find evidence of people when nothing gets ploughed in my neck of the woods makes for long walks, little digging (unless you like digging iron, which i do every now and again to break the boredom)
i enjoy the fresh air though

know the feeling today was even worse just a couple of buckle fragments, and a broken pastry jigger/cutter. even started digging the minus numbers now and then. I managed to get another 60 acre field the other day it's had maize in it, did try and tackle a bit today but the bloody stalks that are left are a right pain, might even fit the 8"detech and have another go you just can't get a swing going., I'am hoping the farmer is going to start ploughing soon so I can start all over again on the other two fields....Mark
