Hi, LC is Lake City Ammunition (USA)
The 88 could be 1988, but not sure

Lake city Army Ammunition plant, independance, Missouri.

the cross in the circle denotes it as a standard NATO round.

Hi tener,
can't tell from photo is it live or is it a blank round? The primer has been struck so if it's a live round it is still potentially dangerous but if handled with care will be ok. Think a live round with a struck primer may be classed as inert so ok to keep but not entirely sure .

Hi Tener, its a 5.56 (.223) round, it is now the standard NATO round, fired from M16, SA80 etc etc etc :D :D :D ::g

A complete round with a struck primer is classed as 'visually inert'. It would be impossible for the cartridge to be 'set off' in a weapon or by any other means once the primer has been struck.

RRPG is prob right as he knows his stuff but the primer may have been struck with what is call a light strike that is where the firing pin has enough power to mark the primer but not enough to detonate the primer. They are rare but did and do still happen so technically could be live but no way to tell!.

Indeed, light strikes can be a problem. However, the picture of the blast cap of this round appears to show a decent enough strike.

Easiest and safest thing to do is hand it in. Then there can be no problem !
