Metal Detecting

Good Day all,
I don't believe this has been covered, or maybe I'm just slowly going mad .......
Running a Deus with a set of Chef Phones - recently in one of my fields, I had to keep stopping what I was doing as I SWEAR I could hear faint voices ....... turn around, nobody anywhere in sight. Though maybe it was my phone GPS talking from my pocket, so ignored it.
Today I went out WITHOUT my phone, and the little voices are still there every now and then - I'm a totally lucid chap with my own business - I'm sure I'm not going mad, am I ???
Seriously though folk - although 18Khz is incredibly low, is there ANY possibility I am picking up other radio transmissions with the headphones ? Seems to be just that field on the very HIGH ground it happens in.
Anyways, I'm off, got an alligator in the oven for lunch and the car needs painting.

Anything electrical can pick up signals. I'm a DJ and very often i'll hear 2 cabbies talking in my headphones. Your story did make me laugh though

Yes, i do occasionally hear what i think are voices... I do sometimes actually go up to the person im detecting with (If i am with someone) and say 'Did you say something?'

I get the same thing

Sometimes I hear a mans voice but there is no-one around. It is not picking up radios etc it is as if a man is talking.....funny thing thou it happens only in one particular field and it is the same voice. The even weirder thing is since it has started happening my dog just takes off home. He normally spends hours out with me and is happy sniffing around whilst I get on detecting. On this field though he takes flight and goes home. Today I was on another permission also close to my house and the dog spent three hours with me happy sniffing around?!?

Yes you can sometimes pick up other broadcasts, even if they operate on another frequency.

Sometimes it's the sheer power of a nearby transmission, and other times it's what we call 'harmonics'.

Lol I get it now and then and have grown to just ignore it....this worked fine till one day detecting in the middle of nowhere it happened and ignored it as usual....it wasnt till the farmer who was working close by unnoticed tapped me on the shoulder while I was on my knees checking a hole that I realised it was him shouting to see how I was getting on......nearly had to change me breeks for a clean pair.....thought he was going to have a fit he laughed so much lolol

i never wear headphones and one day i was just going back to my car and i heard a voice say " Find anything good today young man " i looked around no one there so carried on then the same again then i just saw the top of a head over the hedge and it was a little old guy about 85 years old and 4ft 7 inches tall scared the S--- out of me i thought it was a troll or garden gnome

Back in the 70s there was a ghost hunter spiritualist type guy who did experiments on trying
to record spirits voices. He did this by using a reel to reel tape recorder but it had to be a brand
new tape. He would sit in empty fields for hours miles from anywhere and ask questions to unseen
spirits. he would then take the tape back to his lab and listen to it back using hi end equipment for the time, and more often than not there were voices on the tape answering his questions. Totally unexplainable. We are not alone when we think we are. This is a true story.

How about this then? I don`t know where its from.

Hi amblik, you are not alone....was out on Saturday on some pasture and thought someone was behind me just as I got a good signal, knelt down to remove sod and heard footsteps passing behind me but still no one there. I was about to check the hole with my PP and heard voice repeating the same word over and over but couldnt make it out so shut down my E trac and heard it twice more then nothing, really gave me the shivers
Ended up being a good hole found a ship half penny and two musket balls in it.
