On Sunday I hit the beach not expecting much as there was no wind to speak of,just a light SW which tends to bring sand in.So it turned out to be,I finished the session with 5 coins all in very poor condition,a 1942 half-penny,2 pennies 1898 & 1913 plus a 1p & 2p oth 1971.While busy searching,I noticed a piece of steel that looked unusual which on closer inspection i could see that it was part of an enamelled advertising sign for Brook Bond Tea.It had I suspect come from one of the beachfront shops that had been destroyed in the January 1953 storm. On the way back to the car saw fellow detectorist Terry who was on holiday from Kent, had a bit of a talk -he was using a Lazer Rapier and at that stage had only found a grotty clad 2p.

I sometimes think that the fragment you found and he story you weave is far more interesting than any hammered coin.
