Now i know nothing about the legalities of beach detecting but i do know that there is an offence of 'Theft by finding' i would have thought that the best way of avoiding any possible hassle then the ring should be handed in as a found item at the local police station.
If after a certain amount of time has elapsed and the item has not been claimed by the owner then the finder gets to keep it anyway.
I know this as my wife handed in a purse containing a large amount of cash, after a couple of months she rang up to see if it had been claimed, it hadn't and she was given it as the finder.

TinTin is right.

To do it all properly it must be handed in and if unclaimed after a period of time it then goes to you as the new owner. Very nice ring. Well saved Helluvatractor. ::g

Told a guy on a rally that i did beach tecting ... he told me he didnt as he considered it scabby ... really some thoughts are kept in rather than let out!!!! hey ho
I told him that finding stuff is just like righting a wrong... its wrong that the stuff was lost, and all I am doing is putting it right!!!
So on that subject ... your ring is a great wrong nicely righted!!!!

Thanks for posting your last two finds. I didn't, think it was possible to find gold on local beaches with slippery out there! , gives me renewed hope.

May be its time to move up the beach a bit!

These tides have been massive, but spent it mostly fishing. 20+ bass in 2 weeks with the biggest 7lb. Had the MD out on one of the low tides to pick up some pre decimal coins but nothing as exciting as your finds.
