Hi all
With the storms going around at present, if i stand with the beach i go detecting in front of me I am looking North East - what direction of wind is the best for removing sand from the beach during a storm etc - or have i got his factor wrong? Hope someone can clear this up.
Thanks
Mark

From what you describe,a South-West wind would be best.On shore winds tend to bring sand in while off shore will take sand out.

This is one of those things that can drive you mad with frustration and after a year of trying to figure it out and attempt to predict it i've basically given up and now just go with the flow! High winds and powerful wave action will more than likely shift sand around somewhere regardless of which direction its blowing, or at least it seems to on my beach anyway!Best advice is if its been stormy get down and have a look.

I wondered how the sand moved, i visited my local beach on saturday as i went there about 3 months ago and loads of sand had been stripped away showing black sand, i had never seen this before on this part of the beach and i have been going there for over 20 years, so now ive got a detector i thought it would be a good spot.
No the sand is all back, over 6-10 ft of sand. So if the sand comes in on an inshore wind this would make sense! ill try this part again after some storms!

best time to search is winter you need more than wind to stripe a beach to a good level to find the ring yes you can find stuff all year round but winters best
