Metal Detecting

Went to the beach at the weekend (having already got my permit from Crown Estate) and did a bit of detecting with the Garrett 150, with the sesitivity at 3 or above, I was getting lots of false signals. When sensitivity was set to 2, didn't get anything unless it was like less than an inch down (which all turned out to be pull tabs). Is the garrett 150 just no good on wet sand or is it that I was just unlucky (in the wrong spot or doing something wrong)?

I have never used an ACE on a beach but have read they are troublesome on wet sand (as are most single frequency detectors). Fine on the dry sand though so you will be O.K. if you stay off the wet stuff !!

I have a garrett euroace and i believe the 150 is similarish and as such not very good at wet sand at all. The lower level garretts really aren't built for wet sand detecting, some people have some luck with them but it isn't really a pleasurable experience at all!

I have the Gerrett ace 250 and was recently on a local beach, was hit and miss really.

Hi I have an Ace 250 all i do is beach detecting, started about 3 weeks ago. I can find stuff in the wet sand but not very deep and you have to turn the sens down to about a 3, i did good on the damp sand the other day on a different beach and sens was just below full, i pulled out some coins that were quite deep and coloured. Im now looking to get a CScope 4Pi for the wet sand and just use my Ace on the dry. When I returned to metal detecting I used a Garrett 150 cracking little machine on the dry sand.
On one beach it crackled on the damp sand the wet stuff, was a no go, on the other beach I use to go on just would not work on the wet.
I now use a XPGMP again great on the dry. The only option for the wet stuff is a PI detector.
The 150 is a great machine I wish I'd hung onto mine as a back up, found some good stuff with it

I have the 250 which i use on the wet sand, i run mine quite high but it constantly
bleeps and is a painfull experience, but the good signals do shine through if you can hack the noise

having been an owner of the 250 and used it on wet sand I can honestly say it is pants for beach work, its all to do with the salt and minerals in there.

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like wet sand is hit and miss for the 150, I will try with dry sand. I am also going to look for permissions on land.
