Great winter tips!

I don't wear the camouflage gear myself but my digging mate does, apparently very warm and waterproof with lots of pockets.

I think the waterproof overalls sound a good idea also.

I wear a camo waterproof jacket, but that's simply because I was given it by my uncle as he's in the army

Well I was once given a pair of knickers by a girlfriend but I dont wear them !!

I must confess, I'm a bit fussy when it comes to winter clothing, I only wear Paramo, very expensive but you only buy it once, lasts forever, waterproof, breathable, light, rustle free, and definitely does what it says. For footwear it has to be Brasher hillmaster GTX Goretex.....fantastic, dry and warm, all the above are also used for hiking, so dual purpose.

Worth every penny I know to some this will seem a lot of money, but I have had them for 5 years and they are still like new, I do go hiking in horrendous weather, always warm and dry.

i wear the camo pants not waterproof ones, for two reasons the amount of pockets and if they are the proper army ones if you get caught in a shower they are dry in 20 mins so you dont spend the rest of the day soaked. but i get where your comming from oldfart some people look like they are going on excersize lol

I can see that camoflage clothing has is appeal as there are lots of pockets, hard wearing and cheap. I prefer walking trousers from go outdoors or even lidls workware.

I have conceded with an assault vest though as it is flexible and i can carry everything i need on it including a camelbak. Desert ones are only £10-20. I also have desert magnums as they are a lot cheaper than black ones.

I personally dont see the need for loads of pockets. I have my finds bag with a small pocket stitched to the side to take the mobile phone. I have a packet of sweets in my trackie bottoms and thats it.
I only go detecting with my campervan so I can always wander back and make a cuppa, but I suppose if you need to carry drinks and stuff pockets might be handy but they would piss me off.

I'm like you, don't wear a vest (used to) , but got annoyed with all it's pockets lol, so brought a 'TF gear stalking belt' (TF means total fishing, not the ferret )
Bit bigger than I thought it'd be, but will fit large horse shoes in for the hedge later on, and will fit two 1l drinks bottles in

That brings up the question of what do people do with the damn great lumps of broken plough etc?
If I'm close to a hedge I will throw it over. If I'm in the middle of a field I will throw it towards the nearest hedge then on every subsequent visit with throw it closer and closer until its finally in the hedge

If it's too big to fit in the finds pouch (which it would have to be mahoosive lol) then I just walk over to nearest hedge... Luckily I have lots of fairly small fields, rather than massive fields, but if I'm in a huge field, I'd put it in my rucksack and chuck it into the bottom of the hedge when I get near one
