Hey I am looking for a budget detector for the beach and was looking at the cs4pi and was wondering on anyone's opinion and how much extra it would cost for a machine that can descriminate against iron. Any ideas appreciated

Cheers

The Multi freq option for a detector with discrimination is the way forward, this could be like the DFX,Etrac,Sovereign etc but then they dont come really in the 'budget' range as such, the nearest would be the Sovereign i guess you can pick up a early model for a reasonable amount,as someone else has mentioned they can be heavy especially when the control box is mounted on the stem but they are hip mounted so that reduces the weight by a massive amount.

So basically i dont think you will find a perfect beach machine with a low budget, the C-Scope is amazing value for the money.

I do own a Pulse and also a DFX that excel very well on the beach, good luck in your quest in finding a decent machine.

Can only agree with what has already been said. I went from a pi machine to a Minelab Sovereign, as I was digging too much iron on my local beach. You can pick up a second hand Sovereign for about 250-300 quid. The 2 drawbacks are weight (I use a bungee harness) and slow recovery speed (slow sweep speed required). Good luck on your choice.Cheers, Mark

I looked at sovereign but weighs loads and I like to be on beach a while the sovereign will chin you quickly and make you wanna stop so if you live far from beach like me 80 mile I recommend cs4pi as I have one it detects well deep found things 15 inch in the wet low tide only costs £250 new and there's never any litter in wet sand so discrimination not that important granted you do find rusty iron objects but I dig most things when using other detector on land so doesn't bother me digging everything at beach as there's not that many hits anyway.

If I was gonna get value for money minelab it would be safari it's great on beach about same price as sovereign and much lighter.

If you use the Souvereign as a hipmount there is no problem with the weight.

I'm using the Souvereign for 10 hours streight at the beach without any problem. The problems start if you start using bigger coils like the 15 inch Wot, or the bigger SEF coils. But if you use a good bungee cord that problem can also be solved.

Cheers for the replies guys. As I am on a budget I think the cscope might be the best place to start. Will hopefully be able to give you guys a review on it.

The cscope 4pi has no descrimination... I had one and hated it on the East Coast beaches here just too much iron to dig.. Save the extra few quid and get a Sovereign...

Just beware of buying second hand detectors... even from well respected sources (eg. club members), I spent £250 on a complete pile of junk... its at the back of the garage at the moment, and am still lamenting what a complete and utter fool I was!!

Its a sovereign by the way ... but a junk detector is a junk detector... no matter what the make.
