Hello All
I am getting back into detecting after a long break and have just acquired a Deus. Its a great machine which I use in GMP mode most of the time. But I am still getting used to it.I have been having a problem with getting great signals from coke.Such a good response I always have to dig, recover and swear!!Is there a way around this issue as its getting a bit annoying.Has anyone any settings/custom programmes to try to reduce the response to coke?
Thanks
Tractionuk

Iv'e got a Fisher F4 and it just loves coke 2 of my pastures are infested with the stuff ,even small bits give a good signal specially when it's wet .It won't discriminate out so I just avoid the areas where it is ,It must be where they cleaned it out from the old steam powered farm machinery .
I would think there would be a way around the problem with the Deus you should get some more replies .

I tend to find that (in my area) coke usually comes in at around 20 to 35 (ish) and if you listen very carefully, it sounds sort of "hollow" almost "ghostly" if you can understand what I mean.
It does still sound "sweet", but definitely "hollow", and until you get used to the sound (in other words you have dug loads of the stuff), you need to dig it
The reason I say this is that some VERY good finds also come in at these numbers (but I have not had one yet),
and if you notch out those numbers you run the risk of loosing that good find.
I have heard of quite a few GOOD reports of this, so I dig every thing that sounds good with a repeatable tone, but without that "hollow" sound.
The Deus is a "
tonal" machine, and as such, you shouldn't take to much notice of the screen, just listen to the tones........But I still do and can't help looking

.
This is only my take on it, but if it helps .... great

If you lower the ground balance manually to about 5 or 6 below the index on gmp, Iron volume on 3 , the coke has an extended long smudgey sound which sounds like nothing else ,its dead easy to tell apart from any other mid tone . Once you get used to the sound you don't need to look at the numbers for coke .
Searching like this makes the deus a little more chirpy but easy to pick out the deep iron and coke .
Works for me anyway

Only my own observations and oppinions so not intended to upset or knock anyone but I have used the Deus for a good few yrs now and have never dug anything but coke when I dig low (20-30) numbers on the display. I know and have heard many times over the years that you could miss the odd hammered but believe me I do continue to dig these signal all day in about 1 in 10 trips just to reassure me and have still never dug anything but coke. As for the tones you can sometimes tell but often not and I would never refuse to dig a signal because it got a double blip this is because it is on the surface or very near not just coke. Like I said just my observations and I believe the time saved digging for me obvious coke signals means I cover much more area and find more decent finds. The one thing that will improve most peoples find rate is to listen to the very faint but obvious two way signals that are to faint to actually give a number at all. I always dig these taking a spit of soil out usually then improves the signal.

Glen,
Depending on the quality of the gold, the more alloy metal (silver lead tin etc) in the gold the higher the sound and reading, pure 24 ct gold or gold nuggets comes up in the foil/coke range.
You can leave it in the field no worries just gimme a call I shall have it.
TC
PS best to ignore the meter and just listen to the sound.. trust the machine.

Thanks for the replies.I will have to keep digging the coke for a while till I get used to the tones

.But One other thing about the Deus,is the coil a bit heavy on battery power??Machine lost the coil after about 3 hrs use today.Remote and headphones were still on full battery. Is this to be expected?

Hi tractionuk
If I were you I would drain the coil battery until completely 'dead' (just leave the unit switched on) Then recharge overnight. This should cure the problem.
