Bullet bonanza at Berrow

Hi folks, I had a lovely day on the beach at Berrow near Burnham on Sea yesterday, tides and weather were perfect and I went to a spot on the beach where I'd found a couple of bullets just at the end of a previous session (I'd forgot the time and actually got locked on the beach and had to wait for the warden to let my car out that day :( )
I was using my Deus which I'm starting to get the hang of now. I used to use the standard wet beach program but found that it tended to miss a lot of stuff, so now I use it in Deus Fast with ground balance set in Beach mode and I adjust it manually between 11 and 30 depending on how the beach is drying out. I also knock back the sensitivity until the chatter becomes tolerable, around 85ish.
I had a big haul of .303" bullets and a couple of 0.50" heavy bullets (one of which gave a surprisingly broken signal) https://www.flickr.com/photos/blueaeshna/13909518973/ An old boy I was chatting to says the beach was closed off as a firing range during the war which explains this lot, but I was obviously in the "target" area as I didn't find any expended cartridge cases, perhaps they're at the other end of the beach. I also found a nice 1897 viccy penny which was a bit of a surprise, but only 35p in spends. A lovely day on the beach in the April sunshine though.

Happy hunting,
Mike.

Nice finds

I am always happy finding bullets

Hopefully some with more experience will be along but the two 50 cal look like incendiary and are filled with mix of 50% barium nitrate and 50% powdered aluminum/magnesium alloy

I don't think there is a way to make them safe and believe that they are legal to own

I could be wrong as I am new to this

Thanks for the advice, I can't see blue on them but it could have worn off by the sea I suppose, will get them checked out.

Normal 50 cal only have 1 groove I have a box full.

I believe that incendiary all have two.I have never found one yet.

Think a lot are found on the beaches of Norfolk as they were used in target practice.

Your 50 cals are indeed incendiary, as denoted by the double cannelure. Only incendiaries had this double groove. Even though they are 'only' bullets, I am afraid they come under section 5(1A)(g) of the firearms act and are hence illegal to possess. They need handing in. And don't be surprised if your local bobby looks at you gone out when you hand them in, as most don't know the intimacies re firearms law. Trust me, they are illegal.

Cheers guys, I'm likely down there again tomorrow so may end up with a few more, they'll all get handed in. If it weren't for the great advice here I wouldn't have known the difference, much appreciated!

Mike.

Hi Mike,
Nice Victoria penny. Keep at it and the silver will soon follow!!
All the best for Easter and good luck.
