George II half penny.

Hello,
This is the latest eyes only find from the Thames foreshore, I know it's only a George copper, but the detail is amazing. There is one thing that seems unusual though, the gap between the R and the E in Rex seems much bigger than in the Spink book.......or is it me

Nice find, think the distance between the letters depends on whether its a young or old head issue

Hello Deano,
I had a George II half penny (old head) and your R does look further away than the one I had. I still have a photo of it (below). Can't find any info on this, so a bit odd. Very nice find, and very good detail.

My mistake Deano, I recieved my spinks book today in the post and realised my coin is a farthing not a half penny. So maybe that's why they are different. No half pennys were dated 1741. rl;

I don't know about the letter spacing Deano but will be interesting to see if anyone can shed light on it. The condition is superb and that's what makes the Thames foreshore a very special place to search. There must be other tidal foreshores around the UK but apart from the Humber don't seem to hear about them.

I agree Stratman, any sizeable river must have had human activity around it in history. Or there keeping it secret
