Minelab Pro-Find Pinpointer

Was given a minelab pro-find Pinpointer by a friend of mine a few days ago and it is starting to act in a weird way? It has a brand new 9v battery inside.
I switch it on and press the plus button+ until it is on the highest setting, and as soon as i move it into the downward position without any Metal anywhere near it, it Constantly bleeps and vibrates?
When i press the negative button - down a couple of times the noise stops. But then i have to put the Pinpointer very close to the metal object before it can be found?
Can anyone give me some help please.
Thanks.

Hello I have not used the pro-find pinpointer personally but it appears to have different sensitivity settings, when you have it set too high its picking up outside interference so by lowering the setting eliminates that

These settings are set generally to your personal preference and what you can get away with in your surroundings.
Cheers

Thanks very much for your reply mrix, I have been detecting in a field far away from any interference apart from my Detector that is, but i always keep my Detector at a fair distance as i did think it may be this.
It is Still working, but just seems to be doing it's own thing, and i have to put it on nearly the lowest setting to make it perform correctly. Thanks again for your speedy reply

Hello, its possible you maybe getting interference from your metal detector which can be quite common with pinpointers or some other kind of interference, maybe an electric fence or other kind of magnetic field interference.
Best of luck finding a solution

Might be an idea as an experiment to not turn the detector on when you get in the field, but set the pinpointer up first and see if it remains stable.....Then turn the machine on and see if it starts to act up again....

I was waiting for that one beaubrummell !!!
The Guy who gave it to me is a 74 year old detectorist and he tells me that he had No problems with it at all. Since owning it, it's given me nothing but signal after signal without anything being near it.
Just got back from the Woods where i have been detecting for nearly two years and there is nothing in there to confuse the pinpointer. Even turning my detector off when i go to use it and it still plays up. Think it needs looking at and fixing, anyone know of a pinpointer shop that could take a look??
Found lots of stuff today, even with it, but only seems to work on it's lowest setting which means i have to be very close to the Item before it bleeps and vibrates. May as well just use my pinpointer on my Teknetics Eurotek Pro. Anyone please help.

ive been using mine now for over 2yrs with no problems, im not saying you dont but use a top quality new bty, ramp up the sens then back off 2 or 3 notches.
i have never had any emi or mineralized ground problems, even on beaches, it could have developed a fault.
