Well well and Wow!! You certainly had a result with these two beauties. I can well imagine the pleasure it must have given you to be able to find such Treasures.... Lucky, lucky you! I myself have a few Celtic gold coins here at home and never cease to admire them although having said that. My main forte is artefacts which give me such real pleasure just to hold them in my hands. My largest artefact to date is a beautiful Roman bronze Leopard, paws outstretched as though leaping. From the head to the tip of the Tail is 6". Finds such as this make my life worthwhile and spur me on for even greater discoveries and one day I hope to fine........sigh :-)

The Flo reckons they could be votive deposits - I'm surprised it's just coins if that were the case - honestly no idea! I'll upload a pic tomorrow showing the gps plot so you can see the spread etc.

Good afternoon all.

Another weekend and yet another beauty of a find... this time the father in law. As well as a little 'Spot the ball' type game for you all.

We thought we'd give the Roman area a go first - headed across and plotted each corner and decided to focus on outside the area given we've done the main bit so much. There was nothing... absolutely nothing - so strange as all the coins are concentrated within a 30x20m area.

So on to the gold section (a stones throw from the above.. it's mad!)... Plotted out the locations of the 4 gold coins (3 Scyphates and 1 Stater) and both picked a half to hammer. Within 20 mins I spotted the father in law digging and couldn't resist walking across. He'd just about dug the hole when I reached him and there it was... peaking out of the soil was his very own Gold Scyphate - much to our delight. So far it's me thats found the gold on that field so it felt fantastic for him to grab one too. So we're now at 4 Scyphates and 1 Stater... crazy!

We had to leave soon after - but hopefully back one day in the week - Cant wait!

Pics below of todays find as well as the overview of find locations.
The rectangle to the left are the 4 outermost corners of the Roman Siliqua Hoard.
The 4 to the top right are the Scyphates and the one to the lower area is the Stater.

So the game - it has that 'spot the ball' feel to it.. only this time its 'Spot the pot with the rest of the coins in''. The flo thinks theres 2 - one for the Roman Side and one for the Celtic side... where are they?

Cheers all

Another well done.
Never thought about 2 hoards but your FLO could well be right.
Scyphate pot, make the 3 together a rectangle with an alignment with the stater and outer Scythate.
Bottom Siliquas, field may have been cross ploughed to the current ploughing, bang in the middle of the 4 corners.
Good luck, more to come ::g

Beautiful finds and we all wait with bated breath to see you come up with a pot (or two ! :D )
