Even though detecting now has is own TV show there are probably only a few thousand in the whole country that detect regularly.

then they have to log into the forum at the same time as your post shows up in recents. Which is normally less than 24 hour. The chances are quite small.

As much as I hate Facebook. You might find a local detecting group.

Other than that there is a metal detecting rally group. I have notice a couple a year down your way. It's a good way to meet people. You neve know there could be someone local turn up.

I think there are several reasons for lack of response and there was a similar thread a few months back, if you do a search you might be able to find it, try these for starters -
One of the main reasons given was the risk of meeting strangers in isolated places, especially for ladies.
Some requests on here for buddies appear to be a case of the person trying to gain permissions without the hard work, knockbacks, of gaining their own - I am NOT saying this is the case here.
Also some examples were given where "buddying up" had caused problems - eg Appeal on here for a buddy and a person kindly lets the person join them on one of their permissions and the next thing they know is that the person is back detecting on their own and causing problems with the landowner.
Some permissions are given on the understanding that only the one person can detect and not take friends.
A lot of detectorists prefer to detect on thier own.
As Koala said "there are probably only a few thousand in the whole country that detect regularly.", now cross out those that prefer to detect on their own and those that are either unable, or unwilling, to share permissions and you are looking at a small number.
Then stating the obvious in Macroman's case the Pembroke/Tenby area is about as isolated as you can get and much too far for most people to drive for a couple of hours detecting.

For anybody near the coast, as in Macroman's case, and wanting a buddy it might be worth saying specifically "A buddy for beach detecting" as that would remove any potential issues with permissions. Then once a friendship and trust has been established maybe the idea of detecting inland might be an option.

There are also various groups around that do rallies, The Ferret mentioned Lets Go Digging which is one of the biggest, I fully appreciate that these events are not everybodies cup of tea but they do provide opportunites to detect and a social aspect through which friendships can be built which could potentially lead to buddying up.

I do not know what people think of my idea in viewtopic.php?f=12&t=94166 but it could be an option for Macroman.
