Metal Detecting

Hi all you CTX 3030 users.

I was wondering if any of you that has the newer CTX3030, has fully submerged it yet? (even if you have the old one let me know what happened)

Have you got it wet or dived with it? Was it wave washed or sunken? Rained on or drowned?

I look forward to hearing your results and feed back.

The reason I ask is that I am nervous about submerging mine. I have the updated model. But still unnerved as to weather it can be dunked... Its obviously a faff to get it repaired or replaced, even if it is under warranty. Its still a hassle sending it off, not to mention the cost...

The main problem with Ctx users is that they think its 100%/ waterproof and yes they re right BUT like everything in life it must be done right.

If your using waterproof headphones then just make sure the water seals are in place.
2/ if using the wireless module then you MUST USE the rubber plug to stop water getting into the headphones socket.

Some people when they go home try to clean the machine with water, yes that is OK
BUT ONE (1) GOBS#ITE I KNOW used a power washer and the Ctx later had problems so use your head.

Water seals and no power washers to be used.

I'm sure that it can be done but I'll stick with regarding any waterproofing as just being useful protection against the vagaries of the British climate but in a more visually pleasing way than the traditional supermarket bag.

Just a general comment - I would think that all manufacturers cater mainly for the mass market - (i.e. in our case daft b***ers who go out detecting in all weathers), not for specialists such as divers. It's like buying a watch - they mostly say waterproof to 3m.... do many customers actually test such claims? I wouldn't. My 'waterproof' Barbour waxed jacket leaks at the seams after only a year's use - not happy.

The point is, the manufacturers all seem to take reasonable care to seal the potential points of water entry but ATDigger's wise words need to be taken into account and unless you're going to go to extremes, you won't find out whether it's waterproof not. Would be interesting to see the nature and the results of manufacturer's pre-release tests.

If it's raining hard or looks to b the 3030 comes out over the French stick. I like looking at the screen not that No's it produce mean much on either machine. Waterproof to 3m ummm good luck. I had a g seahunter I wouldn't of wanted to take that in the surf as I would say most places would wiggle out of water issues and repairs and blame user error. If it's that deep in the water it can stay in there in my head. If it's on the beach turn up at low tide or if you are that keen after a stormy day and hopefully it's inland a bit. I think in this county beach wise u can only go low to high water supposedly. Rather u than me. Good luck.

On YouTube, there is a chap called frogmaster riviera who made some adjustments to his pre 2016 ctx, and has a video of him diving to 30meters with the detector.. Very impressive.

I have also seen plenty of ctx submerged in the sea.

But I'm nervous about putting mine under...

Why have a Garret Seahunter and not take it in the water ?

Probably the same reason I'm worried about dunking my 3030
If it goes wrong it's a right ball ache sending it off getting it repaired, and as he stated some companies like to wiggle out of paying for it(personally I havnt had this with detectors, but have in other products I have bought) the thing is when they have your item, if you refuse to pay they don't send the product back, it becomes a hoo-ha lol.

Fingers crossed none of us have any issues though

The numbers on the CTX are spot on if you are going for known targets e.g. coinshooting for modern spending money and you can get the target id to lock. Otherwise they might indicate almost anything. There are some numbers which, especially when combined with the tone id, will enable you to leave targets in the ground with reasonable confidence that they are unwanted. Personally I tend to dig almost everything anyway except in some very specific circumstances.

I dig it all too bud. it leaves the ground cleaner for next time... unless like you I absolutely know for sure that it is iron..
