Apart the weather, why not?
Summer has more newly dropped items near the surface , winter has changes to the sand that uncovers older items or those that have sunk/been buried .... after that you are guessing as to what you might find. In the med. where I often go to beaches winter is just as rewarding, if not more so.

If you mean for sunbathing its probably not a good idea with weather how it is
If you mean for detecting and you fancy it why not.
Summer time means more coins dropped at the top of the beach, and by now the bulk of those would have been found by other detectorists.
But recently there have been a lot of storms from the east which have stripped the sand from some beaches (but might have dumped it where you want to detect!) so this could well have brought old targets that were previously too deep into the range of your detector. Also this week there have been some very high tides so they would have moved the sand around again.
If you have been watching the the forum the last few months there have still been nice beach finds made so no reason that you can not make some too.

My beach which is shingle has changed for the worse after the last two storms, butI am still finding, just have to look for places that have been changed by shingle being shifted.\\\
I still enjoy it, what else would you do?. Get on the train, and enjoy your day.

i only do beaches so far actually. i recommend it but i have learnt a heck of a lot as a newbie. theres a really great post by tomo with pictures on the first page in the beach subforum that taught me loads.
What i have found interesting is that each beach seems to have its own specific 'junk'. At ramsgate beach i hear a certain tone i know its usually something good like a quid or something (i set the bar high), and lower tones are these annoying tiny bits of copper sheet from the boats. (same ID as rings so gotta dig it lol) At Margate however the same good tones, have always yielded junk from a plane that went down. (cool i hear you cry - however its just moldy non descript mangled pieces of aluminium.....)
I guess what im trying to say is beaches are super fun as the underlying strategy remains similar, the history / make up / tidal impact on the beach will make each a different experience. Enjoy!
(on a side note, my first ever field dig will be Sunday *eek* )

I mostly do beaches especially in the winter months as the tides move everything about and even sort stuff out for me. On one beach I know where the old 3d twelve sided coin and £1 coins are sorted. Best day 8 3d's and 18 £1 coins not counting all the fishing weights that are sorted.
Went down one of my local beaches for a couple of hours on Tuesday and found 36 large fishing weights and a few modern coins in a couple of hours, was hoping for Gold but no luck.
Don't know about up country but here in Cornwall quite a lot of beaches have web cams on them so I can check before I go to see if the sand level has dropped.
Best in 6hours is 18 grms of 9k Gold after checking the sand level had dropped to rock on a beach that I don't detect on

I popped out to Southend Friday afternoon for a wander. Usual ring pulls, molten ali, one fishing weight, 70p and these two figures that I first thought were kids toys.

Th e beach? Always worth a visit, if only to pet one of the many dogs that appear to like joining us and perhaps a chat or two with passersby.
Last year I gave up some of my detecting time to chat with a young woman who showed some interest in what I was doing and what I was actually finding. It turned out that the lass was actually a very friendly farmer but unfortunately for me she farmed in New Zealand!

Went down the beach the other day to test my newly repaired SE Pro.
In two hours quite a lot of new coins and a twelve sided 3d within a few seconds of starting. A man watching me was quite impresses when I told him that a signal I was getting was a £1 coin.
At the finish best coins were an Edward VII and a George V sixpence both in good condition.

YES BUT .........Check tide timetables. Nothing more annoying than turning up and it's lapping against the sea wall. Make sure when your in your own little world there's routes off the beach if the tide comes in against say the cliffs etc. Take a phone and a carry bag for the rubbish don't 're bury it. Dont expect too much I've been numerous times and got nowt. Its a day out.....
