Recovered - One of the Rarest Silver Hammered Pennies

Post by Fisher1266X »

For various reasons, we have only ventured out a few times this season.

However, when we have been out, we have had reasonable success in the recovery of many, and interesting artefacts.

This one, recovered last Saturday, was a nice surprise, being a cut-half of Stephen and Matilda.
One expert stated that "If genuine, it's one of the rarest and most valuable hammered pennies out there!".
Apart from this coin, we also had several other silver hammered coins, some Roman coins, and some 'Saxonised' Roman coins. Talking of Saxon, we also recovered a Saxon wrist clasp dated to the 6th century, and a gold noble coin weight!

Cheers Rick, we've had a busy time with a fantastic archaeological dig last year at one of our farms.
This was conducted on the strength of our evidence for a Roman shrine which uncovered multiple small hoards of Roman coins.
The archaeologists have drawn up a plan for this years' dig which will involve 4 trenches over what we think are even more Roman shrines.

We still have a major 'Treasure' procedure that is still ongoing x;

I'll probably post a few more finds soon....
