Foreign Coin Feature : Australia

Post by Dave8472 »

Today’s two separate features are both commonwealth countries, the first here being Australia. These coins and badges most certainly found them selves here though the brave soldiers that were stationed here while on active duty, or at least traded with the British. The two bronzes and the cap badge were found on the same site, coins dating to WWI. Out of interest this same site has produced large quantities of British, French and Prussian buttons. The sixpence was found in a park (with permission) and the Three pence elsewhere as a casual loss.

Most were found in Kent and even the London ones are postal Kent (PAS = Greater London) as that's where I mainly detect. A few notes on the coins and video. All the 'copper alloy' ones are colour photoshopped in order to harmonise the colour variations in photography so they are not all brown in real life. The nickel and silver coins are also 'grey scaled'. The sizes are also scaled but there is nothing unusual in any of them that need explaining ::g. The use of YouTube was just a simple way of displaying them for the forum with the sizing and quantity limits etc, as I don't like linking off to hosting sites. I don't do YouTube so nothing to subscribe to :)) Its just a video dumping ground for me :-O It is best viewed within the forum as it is only low resolution. If you spot any dating errors on the spreadsheet timeline please let me know !

Please feel free to add any Australian (ONLY) coin finds to my post, always interested to see others ::g

The YouTube isn't for 'Self Promotion' it was to purely get around the daily image quota, no need to subscribe, there's nothing else to see there [72/]

As I've said many times... I do love a tanner! The second bit of silver I ever found was a really nice sixpence and they do turn up quite regularly in the silver stakes. Maybe something to do with the relatively low denomination?

I've found two 'foreign' ones and this 1945 one is particularly nice.

This is a great sequence by Dave (check out the Foreign Coin Index). We all come across them... particularly those who's fields were either WW2 allied bases or POW camps. If you find any, post them up... a good resource for thse who aren't sure wha tthey've found. [81/]

Uk went to 50% silver in 1920, then to cupronickle in 1947.
