Anything sold by Carp angling shops will always be light, practical and 100% waterproof, but at a premium price tbh.

Spring/Autumn (wet/chilly) time - Berghaus jacket and trousers - light enough to carry if not needed

Winter - Road workers hi-viz stuff. Designed to keep outdoor workers warm and dry.

Wear layers underneath and take those off if you get warm. [81/]

I do outdoor work and have outdoor hobbies and I live in my Airflex over trousers. Hard wearing fully waterporoof, no muddy bum when you stop for a cuppa, or soggy knees when detecting. Had them years, slip on over other trousers . I think they were about £20.00 . Cheaper than Flexothane which is the same , I'd maybe go a size bigger though for movement.

Thanks for all the info on trousers on here. Have just ordered some Airflex to give them a go in the field after getting soaked legs 2 days running.
Discovered waterproof car seat covers are really good until the next morning when you sit in the seat and the covers have worked because you are sitting in a puddle of water!

Never thought I’d spend my Friday nights buying a pair of strides just for metal detecting, but here we are… I swear I used to be cool once upon a time [49/]

I use those as well..the only downside I find is that they are not very breathable, but they are totally waterproof and easy enough to sponge clean as required..

I suppose it depends on how much body heat you generate. Maybe try lighter clothes underneath. I find they keep me warm and dry in the cold and by the time the weather is warm enough to get you a bit sticky I don't need to be wearing them anyway. My partner has the flexothane version and he find them good too.

Totally agree, it's just hard to get the layers "just right" sometimes...I initially bought the bib n brace version for beach fishing and all in all they have been brilliant. I have just bought the jacket to go with it now ready for the winter....

I'm fairly sure they also do "treggins" that just cover the legs which might be more comfortable to wear when the weather gets a bit warmer but is still wet..
