Logging finds locations. App suggestions?

Post by muddyscruff »

I have been using view ranger for hiking and plotting POI over the last few years since OS maps disastrous update made me swap over, but sad to say viewranger is going to the big app store in the sky in February and the platform it has forced you to migrate to is dire.

Does anyone have a good OS map based app to recommend (Preferably without any social media / sharing element)?

My detector is arriving on Wednesday and I want to make sure I log all those ring pulls accurately.

Another vote for Tect O Trak from me. It has some excellent features, and has served me well for years now.

For Android:

For iOS:

I use an Android phone and up until now I've been using an app called 'National Grid Reference', it doesn't track your movements like the app already mentioned above. It also had one or two annoyances, but I got by with it.

Some time ago I tried an app called Recce, it would have been ideal for me, but at the time if didn't support British National Grid Reference, which is what I prefer to use for recording finds locations.

A couple of days ago I received an email from the app developer and he/she has now added support for BNG, that's the app that I'll be using now.

If you're using an Apple device then this won't be of any use to you. :~#)
