hi, hoping to travel for a day on landudno beach soon, heard it can be quite good there when the sands move, slightly confused as some people mention west shore and then the pier side, any one here have experience on these beaches and any tips? is it best to detect on the beach by the pier or the other side of the town at westshore and what kind of finds to be expected if lucky which i never am other than 100 ring pulls lol

ive been there loads of times ...fishing
...1st make sure you have crowh shore permit ....by the pier are loads of rock pools ...to the right of it there are sandy beaches...which stretch along way .......the west beach is on the otherside of the great orme from llan...you can either use the toll rd (great way and fantastic views) or just simply go back into town (by which I mean ,from the pier) 1st right and you will see signposts for directions
there are not too many people on the beaches ...west beach has dog walkers ....and the beaches at llan arnt overcrowded ....if you detect early morning or after 6 in the evening ..you should havge a clear run ....as families and coffin dodgers wont be present

the permit is free on the net just contact crown estates put in your details for a beach permit if you havent already got one and they will send you back a number which is your permission and the answering device works all hours it allows you to search from the high tide to the low tide area and you can also download a map which shows red for the areas you can detect

I used to live there and detected the beaches for a few years.
West Shore is a good beach as it is quiet in the evenings, as is Deganwy a few miles
towards Conwy. If you want a large beach go to Conwy Morfa, dry and wet sand but dunes
are off limits. Have fun.

If you go to Conwy, park at Bodnant. Ask for directions to the Marine Walk. Go along this walk towards the Morfa. There's a school on the left and rocky beach on the right. The sand is very shallow and its clay about 4" down but there's roman coins, hammereds and old artifacts all over this area. It's muddy and tidal so be very careful.

Hello
I went there on Tuesday!, I went to Conway Morfa beach about 1 miles short of the Tunnel which goes under the Conway Mountain. While on the beach there I tried my Euro Ace and it couldn't cope at all on the Wet Sand, so had to make do with the small amount of dry sand just infront of the Sand Dunes which are fenced off for preservation reasons.
I then went to a smaller section of Conway Morfa just round the corner from the Marina, stayed in the Dried sand and got 10p WOW! LOL, then I read a post in this thread about Marina Walk. I bet this was just round the corner walking distance from where I was. Maybe next time.
This about Wet Sand is going ot bring me onto a new posting. I have been made aware that only Multi Frequency Detectors can cope with Wet Sand and not go mentle. My Euro Ace chucked a wobbler on every swing of the coil even trying sensitivity settings all the way down to 0 ! Not happy as a well know online and shop told me its ok on the beach and even Garret advertise the coil to be ok in Salt water "NOT"
So PLEASE check before going to the beach for the first time that your detector is capable of Wet Sand. Or you will be stuck with Dry sand or Sand dunes if there free.
Cheers

This is not true Steven, have a look at the video I stuck on Youtube for my single frequency 1220XD. It's being able to adjust the discrimination or ground setting which makes the difference; or reducing the sensitivity to a point where the detector can cope with the increased conductivity of the wet sand.Scrape wrote: I have been made aware that only Multi Frequency Detectors can cope with Wet Sand and not go mentle.

had my best rings off llandudno, its a hard beach to detect to get the old vicky gold you need to dig deep signals in the stones when the sand is off and know which patches produce that only time can show you unless your lucky and can go with a friend that knows it, i used to go with Bill Harris regular and learnt alot.
