For your first Victorian silver it’s a very nice one! I remember mine and was well chuffed [81/]
You only go round the block once! So you might as well go round it with a smile on your face (2:)

I'm not saying that you are but if you're out there and sliver eludes you, dont disregard those low tones and low numbers. It's surprising how denarius and medieval pennies come up at such low tones especially if there is a bit of depth.
A big fat silver coin will always give out a big fat signal though. I'm on drilled pasture at the moment and found a big old George V half crown yesterday that was 10 Maybe 12 inches deep but it still rang out as if it was a beer can.
A James I 1604 came up not five yards away at about 3 inches deep giving a solid 21-22 on the 600.
But a tiny battered plainly farthing or penny came out at 12 with a flat low tone at aboit 5 inches deep.
It's not what you don't know that is the problem. It's what you think you know, that just isn't so.

Nice coin Dave considering it came out of the woods. Well found. You can't beat a bit of silver!

About ten years, but only been out a lot in the past three, have found loads of good finds, rare heraldic mount, diamond gold ring, ect ect, found a silver denarius in fantastic condition, but the only hammered coins have been roman or rose farthings, never a silver hammered, and I detect right next to a 12th Century church !!!

I do dig low notes but every time again and again its turned out to be foil so tend not to bother now unless it sounds slightly different, I mostly dig in woods so the foil doesnt blow away like it would on fields and gets trapped amongst the ivy ect.

Well done, good early date.
Still not got earlier than 1895, for Victorian Silver.

Congrats on your first silver sixpence, Dave. Beautiful little coins, and one of my favourite finds. [81/]
