Newborough beach, Isle of Anglesey

Just wondering if anyone has been to Newborough beach, Isle of Anglesey or if it has any history.

just make sure you a have a beach permit .as the wardens there can be a little bit on the keen side ,especially with the woods being a bird reserve .and then you have woodland trust and god knows who else aswell , if get my drift .on the crown estate map it shows it to be ok to detect ,never been there myself ,its big old beach where you from brian ?

Its a beautiful beach and a bit of a trek through the pine forest to it so make sure you take what you need in a back pack as you can't just pop back to the car for lunch.

Newborough (formerly Rhosyr) was a commotal centre of medieval Anglesey. The ruined court buildings of Llys Rhosyr lie on the outskirts of the present village. Debate surrounds the former use of the Rhosyr site; archaeologists at Gwynedd Archaeological Trust consider it to have been a royal home and have established an exhibition in the Pritchard Jones Institute in the village on their findings. Newborough was founded by Edward I of England in 1294, to house the people he evicted from Llanfaes in order to build Beaumaris Castle.

my grandad was from llanfaes ,and my brother lives there now gwawerer im about 5 minutes away from llanfeas myself .yes there was dig there a while back ,in a field the locals had always known as cae y brenin which says it all if you speak welsh hahaa translation .field of the king

I love Anglesey its just so beautiful and steeped in history the coastline just to die for, just hate the wind, unless its hot!

yes im speaking in a very old secret language called welsh .its a celtic langauge ,that has survived for thousands of years . it what britains, would have spoken before the invaders came to britain ,romans and such like ,and it only survives in certain places in britain ,scotland ,ireland ,wales,cornwall ,so you could say im a true brit

The Welsh language of what we know now, was the language of this island. In Anglesey it is their first language. I live on the border of Wales and England and all our roadsigns and road markings are in English and Welsh, I am happy with that I am classed as English but I would never want the Welsh language to die out its our heritage and history.

There's no true Brits now. We're all mixed up, my ancestors came from Wales and Scotland but I think of myself as Eng;lish.

well it depends on how you decide what you are ,do you class yourself english because of where you where born ,or would you class yourself celtic because of where your parents where from .intresting you class yourself as english ,where you born in england ??? if so i would say yes your english .me myself am born and bred on anglesey and can trace my family back nearly a 800 years ,so yes there is such a thing as a true pure brit ,im typing now my friend .there are still small pockets of people in britain that are Descendents of the celts ,who,s bloodline has,nt been mixed or tainted .when blood of viking was on tv they did a dna test in north wales and found that local people from anglesey had no outside dna ,and where the Descendents of teh celts ,same as some parts of cornwall ,ireland ,parts of scotland ,ireland and scotland did,nt fair so well ,as them pesky vikings had been spreading there seed everywhere lol ,not that there,s anything wrong with not having true celtic blood ,i was mearly stating ,im one of a dying breed that will one day disappear (so send me 2 pound a month ) . it will happen ,and my langauage will die out .the world is a huge melting pot of cultures ,that intermingle .thats progress , but strangly, there are more english people now learning my langauge than local people .its a strange world but saying that where all from africa anyway

A couple of years ago the BBC did a program where they researched the DNA genetics of a dozen or so Brits - these were people who believed they were undiluted pure Brits.

It transpired that approx 30% of them had DNA from far outside of the UK, way beyond our European Nordic/Germanic/French neighbours too. Several of them had DNA from very specific west African tribes - people captured and sold as part of the slave trade and shipped perhaps via the UK to the West Indies and America. At some point the lives of their relatives and the slaves had crossed.

Interesting stuff - Without DNA testing this would never have been apparent.

Yes we are a miss mash of different DNA, I have traced a lot of my tree back 200-300 years, from Kent, Suffolk, Norfolk, Hamshire, London, and one line from Limerick in Ireland. So you can emagine going back thousands of years. I would class myself as English from my culture though. However I think tradition is an important part of our culture in the UK, from all corners, it would be very bland if we were all ther same
