Straightening and foil cleaning

Post by Mick »

Ive been cleaning the coin following the foil instructions, should I carry on gently scrubbing or do you think this is enough ?
I dont want to erase any detail by over doing foil scrub.
Also do you chaps straighten your coins or leave them as they are ?
Thanks for looking.

I think the black background looks just fine. Its right just as it is.
No more cleaning required.

Agree with Tomcat.....stunning coin...
I personaly will not straighten any coin...it adds to its mystic......
And the bends you see in your coin was done for a reason by a living person....

I personally only clean the highlighted areas just enough to see the detail for ID'ing.. and if you can work out whos on it by not straightening it? then dont bother trying, but thats only in my opinion. the choice at the end of the day is yours, lovely coin btw. :)

Hi, I think you have cleaned it enough, read an article the other day and they do not recommend trying to straighten them, it also destroys its history, and there is a risk of damaging it
Nice find by the way

Thanks lads, Im glad you have explained that to me as i was sort of leaning to that way of thinking myself.
This field has been done over and over again my farmer has told me. Ive shown him all my finds and hes told me I can keep it. Over the moon.

Cheers
Mick.

As a very rough guide spinks list most half groats as between £20 and £100, depending on mint, rarity and condition....
Date somewhere between 1625 and 1649...
No doubt one of our excellent resident ID'ers will be along with more detailed ID's
