From Canada to Wales

Post by oldartefact »

After dodging dogs and their doings on the beach, I moved round the coast a little and each of my first three holes produced a coin... a 2p, a 1971 half pence and a 1923 Canadian 5 cents!!! I am very pleased with the canadian; the perfect ones can be worth alot!!! The coin is nickle, and had it been pre 1921 it would have been silver i think... having never cleaned a coin with anything other than tomatoe ketchup, does anyone have any tips on how to turn a dull patinered nickle into something you would want to put into a collection?
Thanks to my AT PRO and Rob again.

Hi Rob, if it has a patina on it I would leave as it is, can you put a picture up and we will have a better idea on how it may be able to be enhanced. If it is encrusted then I use Harpic Plus for 30 seconds, but this is quite a brutal method, and you really need to seal it with renaissance wax afterwards

There are a few threads on it in the Cleaning section
