a friend of mine uses 1 of those machines and he has no problems finding hammered pennies, cut halves and groats at depth so have no idea why you are having problems, i think he uses the 3.2 update.
hope you get it sorted, GL

I'd say if it had been just one machine, then there was the possibilty of something being faulty, but with two machines, it's more likely going to be user error. Sounds like you haven't been using the correct settings to detect the smaller silver, or you have just walked where there hasn't been anything to find and been unlucky. You are using 18khz, properly ground balanced, reactivity set right, sensitivity, etc.
Time to read the manual perhaps, it's very good.

Iam totally baffled by this mail.
I have owned and used a Deus for nearly 4 years.
I have boxes of varied finds which I have passed to the various landowners including hammereds.
Deus Fast ie 18kHZ or GMP 12kHz might be worth a try using a test bed as well as being out on a dig . Jerry.

The Deus or any other machine for that matter, doesn't know or care what is silver or copper, they work or the conductivity of a target and in many instances these overlap dependant on the size and shape of the target. So while things like discrimination can gradually knockout targets, it can't cherry pick it's metals.

Some say that a lot of Déus owners don't switch on their machines correctly

XP Déus Mark I V5.21
If you don't hear it..... it's not there!
Stick with the AT PRO - obviously a better detector .....
Only joking got the AT PRO but never tried Deus...

CTX 3030 and Garrett Pro-Pointer. Garrett ACE 250 and AT PRO as spare.
Just bought a deus & I had a few reservations, but on my 2nd outing & after a break of over 2 years I managed a silver hammered which is now with the FLO. Check your settings & switching on procedure. Also Fisher that's some cracking finds mate, what a portfolio.

Great machine light weight finds almost everything
but do not try to over complicate it as there really is no need to mess with it too much

I guess I'm not the only one wondering - "hammered what at 12 inches?" Presumably not something small like an Elizabeth penny. Did it have a significant patina on it, eg. big yellow imprint in the soil it came from, heavy brown coating on the coin etc? I'm just trying to judge how much 'halo effect' there may have been. Most people find hammered coins in ploughed land, I think, where patina build-up tends to be minimal, as it gets disturbed every year.
Edward I penny at the full depth of the spade which is 12" , soil was compacted and has not been ploughed for over 30 years so im guessing it was laying flat in the ground. Ground conditions were wet so a neat plug was removed. Coin was fairly clean with only a small amount of tarnish.Fusion wrote:I guess I'm not the only one wondering - "hammered what at 12 inches?"
