There should be a map available at their website that shows which beaches can be done.

Not sure if you need a foreshore permit or not but they are free any way so won't hurt to get one, I have been on most of the beaches from old Leigh to shoebury and have been plagued with bits of melted aluminium , I think it's left over from the war. Had quite a bit of spends and a few bits of worthless jewellery. If I can be of any help just ask. Cheers john ,PS I have not yet been asked to produce a permit as of yet.

having worked on the cockle boats years ago out of old leigh, just be aware we used to throw live ordnance over board on the way in....the bomb disposal used to collect and blow up once a year. best we had was a rather large shell stuck in the dredge, that we levered out with a crow bar....
Some of my friends are bait diggers and are always digging up loads of bombs , they just pile them up out of the reach of joe public until they have enough to make it worthwhile for the bomb disposal team to deal with them. We gave had some big bangs out on the mudcowsmart wrote:having worked on the cockle boats years ago out of old leigh, just be aware we used to throw live ordnance over board on the way in....the bomb disposal used to collect and blow up once a year. best we had was a rather large shell stuck in the dredge, that we levered out with a crow bar....

I used to go digging a B 17 Flying Fortress somewhere off of Deadmans Point on Canvey Island with my Dad when I was a nipper, used to be loads of wreckage on the surface and the top of one of the propellers sticking out of the mud, you just had to stick your hand in the mud to pull out 50cals by the bucketload

When I started detecting I went down to Southend to practice and tried my hand in front of the fairground and the kids playground .. Had a great time pulling up coins, the odd bit of crap jewellery and loads of pull tabs and bottle caps .. In two sessions I made about £20 in change after paying for parking .. Only problem was there's plenty of people about all year if the weather is fair .. Best time for me is when it's raining and the beach is empty of chavs
