Talacre today

Post by Christoph1945 »

Managed to escape the house today and put in half a day's detecting on the sands at Talacre, Flintshire, North East Wales. The whole place had been devastated by the recent storm surge and the dunes have been ripped apart. My buddy, Richie Sixpence, had already warned me what to expect but I was stunned and surprised that the sea hadn't broken through to the village of Talacre.

Finds were hard to come by and the best I could manage was a bag full of bullets, some 50cal shrapnel, and one decimal penny. The penny was sitting on the top of the sand and was an eyes only find. Most of the top of the beach is sanded in by the sand that has slipped down from the dunes to replace the sand that has been dragged away by the stormy waters.

At least the weather was fine and the company was good. May give it a try next week if the weather don't close in.

Hi Yellow; they say that more storms are on the way over the Christmas period. If the sea hits Talacre again, with the same ferocity, I recon that a lot of peeps are going to get their
feet wet! :(

I was tempted to go to Talacre on Saturday, never went in the end though. Its a shame if the dunes have been washed away/flattened. It my beach of choice due to it been the closest to me (still 2.5-3hrs away though ;;z )

I will have to get over there in the next few weeks for a scan around. ;;z

Hi Glyn, there are gaps were there were none before and in places where one could access the beach via a sloping section of dune, there is just a sheer drop to the beach below. Where you drive over the hump from Station Road, the storm surge was within a foot of spilling over the top last week.

An other big storm like that one and I better start thinking about fitting an outboard motor to our static caravan.

Richie Sixpence and I usually come away from Talacre with a few coins but Sunday must have been our poorest day yet. :(
