The learning curve will depend on if you are new to detecting and/or what machine you used before. I came to the CTX from an E-Trac so it was pretty seamless for me. Programs...well there are many out there to try but I have found that you will come down to using just a few. It is so easy to tweak them and switch between on the fly with the user button assigned to that function. You should determine where you are going to hunt. I have a program in Combined four tones I use for fields that have a lot of iron, one screen with minimal discrimination to eliminate some nails and the other screen wide open. Then I have 4 programmes that I use with more discrimination for parks and trashy places that have a lot of pull tabs and can slaw. Some set in Combined and some in 50 tones Conductive. I use ferrous coin most of the time and sizing pin point and TARGET TRACE that is one of the best features on the CTX.

I have now managed to create the Tadpole program and put it onto the 3030 and also made a couple of other programs to try out. I downloaded the manual and read it twice before I even bought the 3030 but I'm sure it will take many more reads to...but that's the fun bit....finding new info as I go along. I haven't managed to get out yet as I'm still playing with it at home and getting to grips with the way it works...trying different things with some of my finds....e.g. what an Edward penny sounds like...where it comes in on the screen and the same with a Philip and Mary shilling, buckles and all the other stuff. also tried out putting iron next to them etc etc .
I will be going out this week to put what I have learned so far to the test, I know at first I will probably dig any half decent signal just to learn what I can about this Beast.
This forum is awesome.....Thanks Guys....
I will get back to you later in the week for an update on my progress out in the field.
Well went out on sunday with a mate and boy did I stuggle tried all sorts of settings and changed programs a few times..messed about with manual sens to get a bit extra depth..finaly started to figure a few things out but the deep or eratic targets are going to take little longer to work out....The fields were lively and alot of signals...I stuck to just the better signals...there clear ones.....Oh....I did manage to pull out a Bronze age Axe Head....unused.......Te He.....FLO says its about 1500 BC... and in Mint condition....Not Green at all ......Ground was a bit boggy at that spot...When I work out how to put pics on I will post a pic of it.....

Different target separation settings often give different readings on the screen for the same target so try not to switch between too many programs until you get to grips with what the machine is telling you.
Again, depending on the tone ID profile in the program, iffy targets that are not stable can sound completely different in different programs.
Keep to one main program and perhaps use another to check iffy signals using a different target seperation setting.
I usually search in 50 Conductive/High trash and check iffy signals in Ferrous/Fe.Co which works for me.
