Detecting the Humber foreshore

Post by goldandnails »

I was thinking of tryoing detecting on the Humber maybe at North/South Ferriby but never been down there before and didn't know what machine would work best. Is the salt water an issue down there. Also would i need waders or is the ground reasonably ok to walk on ? Also how quick does the tide roll in any damgers in general I need to plan for? Any info would be useful thanks

HI.. check tide times carefully I usually get there two hours before low tide and follow it out. It is very very hard work, muddy so be prepared. Strong digging implement with a sharpened tip. Oldest finds, in my experience, come from west of the Bridge. Park at the country parks in and explore from there. If you want lots of modern coinage they are under the bridge. The tide will push you back to land, and there are lots of places to exit. All the best Brian

If you make use of those waders ... then you are risking being carried out to sea!! the currents in the river are leathal ,,,, would stay well out of the water... and for your first visit stick to the non-muddy bits ... no pun intended...
And the modern coinage under the bridge is 95% 2p's ... but the parking is free!! :) :) :)
Imagine there is no heaven, only sky above us.
