First time out today..Berrow Beach

Post by murkey »

As I have said in other posts I bought a second hand Laser Hawkeye last week and have been itching to try it out so without a permission I headed to a local beach Burnham/Berrow with family in tow (made sure I had my Crown estate email), while the missus walked the dog I done a bit of detecting with my lad..

All in a great bit of fun, I found a £1 coin several 1 and 2 pences a 5 pence and a old style 1969 50p (forgot how big they were!), also found some old copper nails, ring pulls etc but the most odd thing was a tube of KY jelly!! Its a plastic tube but the detector found it and sounded when I passed it over?

My lad said "Mum, Dads found a tube of toothpaste" bless him... rl;

Must say the Hawkeye was excellent and found tiny objects 9" down in medium damp sand, want to find some bullets next but Berrow beach is quite big so not sure what end to go...also going to start trying for a permission and just deciding on the letter or direct approach..

Hi mate I asked the same question about the bullets last week and got some good advice (thanks again cernelcuster ::g ) that meant I was finding them on Tuesday .

Go to Berrow and park on the beach, thats the entrance by Unity Farm with the Sundowner cafe on the access road. Anywhere between the posts and about 100 yards down is where the bullets are.

Best have a read of this thread http://www.metaldetectingforum.co.uk/vi ... 12&t=63849" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; as I found one .50 cal incidiary round and wouldnt have known what it was.

I arrived just after high tide and detected a strip down the beach as the tide went out, by the time I got to where the bullets I found there was hardly any rubbish and some decimal coins as well.

Parking on the beach is £4.50 all day and the car park is locked at 5pm.

Good luck ::g

Thank you, will take a trip down there again and try for the bullets, I would like a .50 cal but if it has 2 rings then I know its illegal and dangerous ::g

Yeh £4.50 to park on the beach, have to find some more of those £1 coins to keep parking there!!

Along the road, just north of Pontins, there is a large pub called the Seagull. There is a big public car park at the back - free in winter, cheap in summer. There is a short path from there through the dunes. When you get to the beach you will see, way over to your left, a row of stakes going out into the sea. This side of the stakes, for about 100 yards or so, and about halfway from the dunes to the mud line, is where you will find loads of bullets. Some of them tracer, as well as some cannon and machine gun shells.
I found a fat and heavy man's 18k gold wedding band there last year as well .. so you never know ;)

Excellent advice and thank you, my other half has fond memories of the Seagull as that's where she went with her family years ago, surprised at ring finds on Berrow as it doesn't look like the best swimming beach, was the wedding band fat and heavy or the man that owned it!! =))
