Strange on Margate beach yesterday

Post by robr »

It was a lovely day here in Kent yesterday, 4pm of to Margate with the Deus.
Strange thing was all the older coins (sixpence, three pence, half crown, penny etc. came from top of the beach and modern coins came from near the waters edge, I got a good haul of both and it was a lovely evening, I just wondered why it would be this way round?
Oh the Deus performed fantastic on the wet sand!

Could be something to do with the recent storms chucking all the old stuff up the beach , just my thinking.

they put sand on margate from other place, at a guess I would say you got the predecimals from pool end up near metal posts on the beach, that's where they were replenishing sand the other week

Good point i can recall some years back people finding Dutch 17ct silver coins on a beach in Kent that had been infilled with tons of sand that had come from the Goodwin sands, a sandbank in the English channel. The dutch coins must have come from one of the many ship wrecks on the Goodwinds.
