Sovereign or safari for wet beach
Hi,
I phoned Joan Allen the other day to ask if they had a second hand sovereign, the lady I spoke to said don't bother with one of those they are not made anymore, what you need is the Minelab Safari as it is much more advanced also easier to use.
What do you think? I have been using my Deus on the beach with some success, but feel I would like a dedicated beach machine just for the wet.......Rob

Dunno Rob, but the Minelabs are good on the beach, I use the Etrac and nothing seems to bother it. For unbiased opinions and advice I always ring the chap at Staffordshire metal detectors, he's seen em all!

I have used a quattro on the beach and the sovereign. Both worked well but my preference was the sovereign. Be warned they are both quite heavy if you detect for hours on end. I also tryed the c scope pi. Great if you love digging big holes and are not bothered what you find at the bottom.

I use a sov gt for the wet beach and have found over 200 rings in the last few years with them can't knock would not sell the last one i had was the old type in the black box i used it for some years till it gave up the ghost bought the new one two years ago even better on the wet sand for deep finds. But saying that my mate runs his CTX3030 and he find more than me with it a very deep seeking bit of kit but way out of my price range.

If you want a discriminating machine go with the Sovereign. Don't even think about the Safari for the beach. I think the Safari is a great unit, perfect on land but i took a mate out on the beach earlier this year who had the loan of a Safari and i put him to shame with my PI. He asked me if he should buy the safari secondhand for £600, using it mainly on the beach and i said i'd buy him a PI myself rather than him buy that. Get the Sovereign, its designed for use on the beach and a much better option.

If anyone says safari, ring mental health and report them.

My preference is always a PI but the sovereign would be second

A Pi has been mentioned, but not which one? I don't want to buy and then buy again.

Get the Sov Gt by Minelab a PI is fine but you will dig lots of crap and get fed-up with it.

The sovereign is from what I gather a non waterproof Excalibur. As I said earlier it is a brilliant beach detector but for me a little heavy. The cs4pi I had drove me mental.... Digging big holes to find an old nail or bottle top.

I was only joking when I said "Safari it is then"........
Right, the next problem is, where do I find one in fair condition?
They stopped making the Sovereign a little while ago, I see it is hip mountable, which is great as I used to hip mount my Fisher CZ6 many years ago. How much should I expect to pay for a reasonable condition one ?

There is also a saying , a bad work man blames his tools.Numanoid wrote:The saying goes, you can lead a horse to water but can't make it drink it.
If you took the coil off the safari, fitted some 8x8 steel you'd have a half decent looking border spade.
About the only good thing about it I can think off.
