Yeah, get it properly dried out see if you can find it, then give it a good lathering in some epoxy. I'd give Crawfords a bell too they might have an idea what's going on with it. Hope you get it sorted A.

Cheers all, very much appreciated. I'll have to give it a thorough inspection.

Only in it for the ££££'s

Have a close look at the center seams underneath where the plastic meets the resin...flex it slightly

After cleaning a good way to find hairline cracks is to gently rub the surface with a pencil lead, a bit like brass rubbing, on any suspect areas. This will highlight any cracks, works on fishing rod eyes too. You can also use a fluid like ink but that's more messy!

Just Googled, if it is cracked to fix it properly put "crack in metal detector coil" in your search engine and click on the link to The Australian Metal Detecting and Relic Hunting forum. Detailed instructions on how to repair cracked coils. I would do a link but rubbish at such things..I have memorised the method so if you need the info just say..

I have this problem with my etrac and 13" detech but only on 1 field. every sweep at the furthest point left or right it gives me a low tone.. ( I run it in Conduct and multi tones )
weirdly never happens in any other field.. there is a shed load of iron in there though, maybe thats the cause?

i had this problem with my etrac but i use plumbers tape on 1 side of the threads (just half from 12 oclock to 6) where the coil joins the control box, it gives the pins a better contact, never happened again...ianexplorer wrote:I have this problem with my etrac and 13" detech but only on 1 field. every sweep at the furthest point left or right it gives me a low tone.. I read somewhere that people were having problems with water getting under the coil cover with the same symptoms, so when I bought mine, I took great care sealing it to the coil with black mastic.
Never had any trouble. Hope this is of some help
