Hi all,
Can I use my deus lite in water ? ie rivers/streams upto approx 1-2ft deep without an antenna ?
If not can I make a DIY antenna for the lite version ?
Thanks in advance

Hiya!!! I think you will find the 'antenna' is really a 'coupling link/lead', connecting the control unit to the coil, when the coil is under water. As you don't have the control unit, things get a bit troublesome!!
I keep meaning to have a play with this scenario, but its one of those 'round tuit' jobs.......... I suspect if you made up an antenna/link lead up yourself, using RG174 coax, or similar, but extending it to near the headset, you may be in with a chance,.. but RG174 is going to be seriously lossy at 2.4Ghz.....
If, on the other hand, you used a headset/earphone adapter, and placed the end of the (short) link lead near the headset unit, {fastened somewhere on the top of the stem}, you may get some, if not perfect, results........ (there are details of a DIY link cable on the 'tinternet....)
I will watch this thread with interest, I know a fair bit about RF links, and will offer any input I can...

Thanks for your speedy reply!!
I ll try it out this week, I have an adapter for the phones,
maybe get a waterproof iphone bag and silicone the coax inside the bag, pop in the headphone unit,
clip it to the upper stem & use some earphones.
Could I use the double wire from a sky dish to the box? The white one, as I have a coil of this in the drawer!?!
Thanks again pal

you can rig something up but the cable will be long and after 1 session its likely to come unstuck and be unwieldy anway

I made my aerial about 3 years back but these days they are available to purchase for a few pounds.
They do work but you can detect in the shallows without one for about 3".
This coin came from the 2-3" shallows without and aerial
Hope this helps.
Jerry.
