If you are detecting on the wet sand try ground balancing on the wet sand first then hold the coil still until any noise stops. You can now very slowly move the coil from side to side gradually speeding up as you get confident. If you get any unwanted noise then simply slow down again. Shallow targets will be obvious but listen our for any small chirps that are repeatable. The CTX will easily get a fishing weight at 2 feet like this and rings not that much less. Best of luck. ::g

Relic can be a bit noisy but you could always reduce the sensitivity a bit. I always detect with it set at maximum but it will still perform well if you reduce it a little. Remember that each programme has two screens which you toggle between using the 'detect' button (the one with a detector head on it). I'd start with the one with half the bottom line rejected out. ::g

Roughly where are you detecting?

No secret it's mundesley, Norfolk. Depending on sand coverage the wet stuff is generally from a couple of inchs of sand to 6-8 inchs of sand then u get very fine shingle. Been going there 9 yrs and have got I think under 10 coins and no rings from the wet stuff they just don't seem to b there. Other than some one else is getting there every time before me !!! I got into my head that they must b out there i then got a pi. But hasn't produced any better than the 17 before it. Now latest a 3030 from crawfords second hand for a grand. All stuff I get is from the soft which again can b the length of the beach and about 3 m from sea wall to about 15m along sea wall. Again in 9 yrs only 1 Cheapo 9ct kids ring a few toe rings and cash. Funny really as beach does get crammed. Mrs normally swims at 10 on a Saturday. 6pm on a friday and 10 am on a Sunday. Maybe beach is being hit before me for the last 9 yr . ;;z ;;z
