Finally find some pre decimal.

Post by Dave The Slave »

Have never found a pre 1992 silver coloured coin from down the beach and only 2 copper pennies, 1926 & 1966.
Did a couple of hours today on sand that had been dredged up a few months back for coastal defences.
1st signal 2 pound coin, petrol paid for. 6oz lead weight and then very thin coin could just make out George IV & Shilling, finally got my pre 1992 silver coloured coin. Then I dropped it where my fingers were frozen and watched it disappear edge down into the sand, finally recovered it
Covered about half mile, turned around on a line about 5yds further in. Had a few coins, heavily encrusted and corroded. Dug a large piece of copper pipe with fittings from at least a foot down. Also recovered a large 10p, not had one before.
At home 11 coins;
2 pound and 7p
1948 Shilling, 1956 Shilling,1965 Halfpenny, which came up as bright as the day it was minted with just a rinse under the tap as the crud fell off,
1976 large 10p and a couple of unidentified coins.
All found on dry dredged up sand with 400i,Custom mode, 2 off max sensitivity and discim below 60.
Well pleased with my pre decimals.
Cheers ::g
Dave.

Sounds like a Grand Day Out to me!
I miss a day in the sea air and the straightforward pure fun of finding coins on the beach.
Not far from the beaches here....but sadly the old GMP is not a good tool for the job. Like trying to knit with a pair of pliers.
