First outing

Post by Scarebird »

Well I got (treated myself) to a Fisher F22 for Christmas, and today was the first chance I actually got to take it out. As I don't have any permissions yet, I was restricted to visiting the nearest foreshore that comes under the Crown Estate.

I'd already discovered through research that my Fisher wasn't going to be the best tool for such conditions, but we all have to start somewhere, right.

Anyway, I came back with a 5p, 2 x 2p, a lump of what appears to be molten aluminium, and a few other scraps. What surprised me was the amount of drink cans and ring pulls that I was coming up with. I know it's a public beach, but it's amazing how much litter inconsiderate people leave behind them when they go home after a visit.

Overall I was pleased to find anything at all, and at least I know my machine works, so a good afternoon all in all.

Great to hear how your first dig went ::g You’ve just found out most of this hobby is a free metal collection and recovery service. 95-99% of what we dig is likely to end up in the recycling or the bin x;

Yeah, sad really. We have some beautiful countryside in this country, but there are obviously some who don't care about keeping it that way.

Glad to hear that you have enjoyed your outing with the new machine, it is quite shocking to discover the hard waste people leave behind on areas like the beaches bearing in mind that during the summer months most youngsters are barefooted on the sand.
Good luck in your pursuits.

Hello 'Scarebird' ::g Well it's good to see that despite a pretty mundane first beach trip with your F22, your spirit has not noticeably been affected. ::g Even an experienced detectorist can accept a poor return when using a 'new' machine for the very first time.

Once you have secured your first 'permission' and got to grips with the F22, the resulting confidence gained in your machine together with your new found ability will surely have the finds rolling in.

I would suggest consider joining the NCMD/FID and also a club (there are several excellent clubs in Kent although waiting lists can be tedious. If possible lookout for a 'buddy' in your area, two can learn much quicker than one in my opinion. All the best. ::g Regards ss47
