Banbury Area buddy revamped

Post by Stocky »

Hi im looking for one buddy in Banbury area.

I have been detecting on and off since the 70s mainly foreshore detecting with little luck.

Being a coach tour driver I try and do the beaches whilst away with groups.

I now how a garret ace 250 and struggle somewhat with setting up. So if you could help me that would be great.

I am 57 and my only exercise is normally walking as the gym seems to much like hard work. So looking for someone who is same age group male or female and obviously a keen detectorist.

I am a bit restricted in when I can detect its normally at a minutes notice.

I have 3 acres of land to detect near shutford near Banbury. I have a signed contract with the farmer/ owner.

I'm looking for one more detectorist to help me.

The farmer said the land had a building on it at some point which was a meeting point and coins had been found a long while ago and he would be very surprised if I did not discover more and other finds on the land.
I have looked at the land and it's on an incline slightly wet at the moment not arable although aeriel view does show what I think are old plough furrows..the land is grassed and has sheep on it most of the year.
The farmer has asked for no groups and requested I take charge of any finds and backfill holes for the safety of his sheep.

You will need your own transport but can help if you are in banbury

Any interest please contact me at krstockford@yahoo.com

Had good response to people in Banbury area looking for land to detect.
I now have a local gamekeeper on board and one other keen beginner.
With the gamekeepers contacts of several farmers and land owners now have over a 1000 acres to do including land where a Roman road close to a stream and old Anglo Saxon hill fort runs through so this will keep us busy for some time to come.
On first few hours out have found two old pennies not of any great age just need to clean them for clarity of age ....where there's one or two there are more.

Hi Stocky, I permissions just north of Banbury that I try to get on most weekends. Where my permissions are, I'd have expected more civil war items,,,, but then, I guess the fields have been detected to death over the years.
Happy detecting and Good luck

Hi
Edge hill and cropredy battlefields yield nothing as they are scavenged after the battle fields further from the battle sites have been detected to death over the years.
I am on fields near shutford which although some have been detected I don't believe properly.
I now have a trio of a group as I tried to join or find a group near Banbury but got no reply or got told they were full.
So I have found the right people who know the right people to get contracted permission for detecting their lands.
So I could start my own group up but thinknthe smaller the better

Keep in contact and maybe we can all hook up

Hi Stocky.
Glad its worked out ok for you from 1 small field to 1000 acres is a dream come true, I must look out for the local gamekeeper in my area :D
It's nice if you can get out with someone else while detecting as even if you are not finding much you can walk over to your friend to see what he's found.
Good luck with the civil war and roman finds.

I'm detecting around Kineton and Tysoe, just not found the history yet, but plenty of acreage and time to go :))
