In the next hole, perhaps two feet away, I found this buckle which appears on the PAS as an early medieval buckle (10th century?). It's very small and bows upwards with a zoomorphic projection at one end.

Could it be the other end of that strap, I'd like to think so. I will see what my FLO has to say.

If I was a betting man I would say yes and would love it to be… But someone with way more knowledge than me would definitely be required.
Certainly seems likely.
