Thanks, a super post and full of information for us to ponder over. I will have a tinker around with the settings and do a few tests on my most usual finds. The tone recognition system is a great one for me as your ear/brain can very quickly respond to the ongoing changes and you don't need to keep on checking a screen. There was some talk a while back about whether the deus was being set up differently in the factories to suit different soil conditions in different parts of the world, any info on that? Liam B-)

Thanks for that Barry. Been looking for a way to turn the deus into a 2 tone ferrous machine. With being used to the 2 tone ferrous etrac its Not easy going straight to xp learning. Finally made a program for the deus on the beach that replicates the etrac in depth and stability and tested it out today and I'm finally satisfied lol. Took a while but its a big learning curve. Thanks again

Approaching zero degrees weather and I am now looking at my MD bag in the nice warm kitchen. I don't want to take any chances with freezing temperatures in my garage upsetting the Deus control box, headphones or coil as I am out tomorrow morning. I don't think the electronics internals will like the freezing cold as I remember when I had the GMP, some members had a few problems with the performance in very cold weather? Liam B-)

Hi all, does anyone know what the small round target is in the center of the Horseshoe, i have noticed it turns black eveyr so often but can not find any info on what this indicates.

Thanks Lee

Hi I think it indicates the target is shallow and at the centre or the coil :)

I do not own a Deus, But it is interesting to know you can change the tones up and down the conductivity scale. I have often thought that soon you will be able to download your own sounds, like on a mobile phone. So if it reads hammie, on the scale, you could have a sound that corresponds, like "dig me dig me", or "I might be gold have a look", or as on your mobile, a certain tune that you have dowloaded. You could calibrate it so that every 10 idents, has its own tune or sound.

barryny wrote:One of the most interesting features of the Deus is that within Expert mode you can alter where on the conductivity scale you want your tones to sound off. So you can keep the discrimination really low and use 3 tones to keep all targets under for example a 40 as a low tone and all targets over 40 as a high tone. This way you really don't need to look at the screen as you will be digging all high tones...The discrimination level automatically gives a low tone for tone 1, you then set the second tone (to where you want to NOT dig 40 used as the example above) to the same tonal frequency as tone 1 and make the third tone level a high tonal frequency. This creates an artificial "2 tone" mode (similar to running the E-Trac in 2 tone ferrous) while using limited discrimination which some have shown to get superior depth with the Deus..

I altered Basic 2 standard mode to be my "2 tone ferrous mode". I have my discrimination set at 2.0 and made the tonal freq for tone 1 a 202. I then set the tonal frequency for tone 2 to a 202 also and set the tonal freq for tone 3 to a 780. After doing that change I set the "break point" for tone 2 at 40 (tone 1 break point is always your chosen discrimination level). This way everything over a 40 is a high tone and everything 40 and under is a low tone. No need to look at the control screen because you guys dig everything over a +/- 40.

In the USA, it seems that the good targets are ALL at 70 or higher not accounting for gold which is a rare find in our fields anyway...this makes all coppers, good buttons, bronze artifacts like buckles and silver a dig me high tone. So I set my tone 2 break point at a 65.
Hey Barry

I have not yet been out with my Deus but have been reading lots and having a play with conrol box.
I have done as you have and changed Basic 1 to 3 tone with tone 1 @200 2@202 and 3 @791 what i want to be sure of is that this will not affect any of the other settings of the program?
I want to leave it as the factory intended to ensure I have not influenced its performance at all in a bad way But want a Dig or Dont dig type of sound so as not to confuse my little brain :-/

Don't know if this will help anyone but i use a clear, slightly adhesive carpet protector. When i was at work we were issued with rolls of this to lay over carpets, and it pulled up with no harm done when finished.I've done this a few times and no lettering etc has come off the detec. My C Scope does not need waterpfoofing but i put this around it to protect it from scuffs etc and it does work, it looks a right mess in the photo as i an due to replace this again. Would ordinary clingfilm work, held with selotape? ::g

Its easy enough to leave your control box in an inside pocket of a jacket going into the wash but all is not lost it seems .. " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Liam
