don't think so there are just a couple of marks in the patina, although the top of the item in the picture does seem to be thinner and slightly flattened, the whole thing is about 26mm across and the cross section of the ring about 3.5mm appears to be some sort of cast copper alloyBlackadder43 wrote:On the round ring item, is that a groove i see where a pin would have sat?

Ahhh thinner section usualy means a suspension loop.....something on a belt or such like to hang stuff on...or a harness fitting......the thin area is where it would wear with constant rubbing and movement....
I read in one of the old detector mags that these baffled people for ages as to their use and were found in their thousands in the fields
Its a possibilty

Hey! Well done Fulltimer. That's a really good days finds you have there. I like the copper strip with the pattern cut into it, and also the selection of coins. Super!

Will I? Won't I? What kind of silly question is that?

cheers Rustynail, its been a busy few day's and have had some good finds over the last week or so, I think I've managed to get a field that's never seen a metal detector before,I've certainly pulled out a fare amount of old iron plough sheers etc and coke cans by the dozen but so far it's been worth the effort and the odd drenching...............Mark

Thats what I was hoping BA, just dug every signal I've had just to help get rid of the rubbish now. at the moment I'am still working over stubble so hoping for more finds once the field has been ploughed. I'am now wondering wether I should be contacting the local FLO about some of the finds I've had during the last week or so, certainly seems to be plenty of history connected to this 13 acre field.........Mark

thanks for the info dazza, helps to date the button, I did manage to find a picture of a painting online of one of the volunteers shooting a musket so I'll get all the info together and print it off and put it all together with the button. makes you wonder how the button got lost in a field outside Norwich. .........Mark

Hello again Mikek, thanks for your help with this. I tried to google with the words you gave me and it came up with a page saying unidentified coins and I don't know if they are the pics you saw but I did see this one that looks very similar to the one I have bearing in mind the condition mine is in and It's very hard to see any proper detail

says 16th century Nurnburg type "Reichsapfel"
